GearFinder Camera Access Policy
Effective Date: February 2026 ยท Developed by Fireground Down Under
GearFinder, developed by Fireground Down Under, is committed to protecting user privacy and ensuring transparency in how device permissions are used.
1. Overview
GearFinder may request access to your device camera to support core functionality related to equipment and asset management within emergency services environments.
Camera access is strictly optional and only used when required by user-initiated features.
2. Why We Use the Camera
The GearFinder app uses camera access to enable users to:
- Capture photos of equipment, vehicles, and station assets
- Document maintenance, defects, inspections, and servicing
- Attach images to records for operational tracking
- Scan QR codes or barcodes (where supported)
- Improve accuracy in inventory and asset identification
3. How Camera Access Works
- The app will request permission before accessing the camera
- The camera is only activated when the user selects a feature requiring it
- GearFinder does not access the camera automatically or without user interaction
4. No Background Usage
GearFinder does not access or use the camera in the background. The camera is only active while the user is actively using a camera-related feature.
5. Storage and Handling of Images
Images captured using GearFinder:
- Are stored as part of user-created records (e.g., equipment logs, inspections)
- May be stored locally or securely associated with the user's account
- Are only used to support app functionality
GearFinder does not use images for advertising, analytics unrelated to app functionality, or surveillance.
6. Sharing and Data Use
- GearFinder does not sell or share camera data with third parties for marketing purposes
- Images may be shared only when initiated by the user (e.g., exporting reports, sharing records)
- Any data handling is limited to delivering app features
7. User Control
Users have full control over camera access:
- Permission can be granted or denied at any time
- Access can be revoked through device settings
- Core app functionality remains available without camera access (excluding camera-dependent features)
8. Appropriate Use
Users must ensure that any images captured:
- Comply with workplace policies and legal requirements
- Do not breach privacy or confidentiality
- Are relevant to operational or training purposes
9. Security
GearFinder takes reasonable measures to protect stored images and associated data. However, users should avoid capturing sensitive material unless required and authorised by their organisation.
10. Updates to This Policy
This policy may be updated periodically. Updates will be reflected within the app or associated platforms.
